The Sri Lankan High Commission in Pakistan hosted a grand reception at the Serena Hotel, Islamabad, to commemorate the 78th National Independence Day of Sri Lanka, held under the guidance of High Commissioner Fred Senevirathne and the staff. The event was graced by the Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting of Pakistan, Attaullah Tarar, as the Chief Guest.
Upon arrival, he was warmly welcomed by the High Commissioner and the staff of the High Commission and was escorted by a ceremonial bagpipe band of the Pakistan Navy. Extending warm congratulations on behalf of the Government and people of Pakistan, the Chief Guest highlighted the strong and enduring relationship between Sri Lanka and Pakistan.
He emphasized the importance of further enhancing bilateral cooperation in diverse areas, including information, trade, culture, and people-to-people exchanges, and reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to strengthening the longstanding friendship between the two nations.
Addressing the gathering, High Commissioner Senevirathne reflected on Sri Lanka’s journey since gaining independence, highlighting the resilient nature of the nation and its people in overcoming challenges over the decades. He noted that Sri Lanka is now moving forward on a steady path of economic growth.
The High Commissioner further emphasized that Sri Lanka has embarked on a new, visionary path of growth under the leadership of President Anura Kumara Dissanayake, guided by a strong commitment good governance, transparency, and strengthened public institutions. He further underscored the depth and warmth of Sri Lanka Pakistan relations, built on mutual respect, cooperation, and solidarity across political, economic, cultural, and security domains, and expressed appreciation for Pakistan’s consistent support while reaffirming Sri Lanka’s commitment to further strengthening bilateral ties.
The reception was attended by members of the diplomatic corps, senior government officials, dignitaries, representatives of the armed services of Pakistan, media representatives, and members of the Sri Lankan community, reflecting the enduring bonds of friendship between the two countries.
The reception also featured authentic Sri Lankan cuisine, including traditional hoppers and koththu, prepared by two Sri Lankan chefs, offering guests a true taste of the island’s rich culinary heritage.
