Sri Lankan High Commission in Islamabad Celebrates Sinhala and Tamil New Year 2025

The Sri Lankan High Commission in Islamabad celebrated the Sinhala and Tamil New Year with traditional customs on 15 April 2025 at the High Commission premises in the presence of all home – based and local staff.

The day’s proceedings commenced with the lighting of the traditional oil lamp, symbolizing prosperity and new beginnings. This was followed by speeches and the exchange of New Year greetings by Mr. A. Christy Ruban, Acting High Commissioner, and Brigadier Kaminda Silva, Defence Advisor.

In his address, the Acting High Commissioner highlighted the cultural and spiritual significance of the Sinhala and Tamil New Year. He emphasized the importance of unity and encouraged all staff members to work collaboratively towards enhancing efficiency and effectiveness in their respective roles.

The event, though simple, was marked by elegance and tradition. It concluded with the serving of an array of traditional Sri Lankan delicacies and sweets, adding a festive flavour to the occasion and warmly ushering in the New Year 2025.
