The High Commissioner of Sri Lanka to Pakistan, Fred Senevirathne, together with the staff of the High Commission of Sri Lanka in Pakistan, organized Vesak Day celebrations at the International Buddhist Centre, located within the Diplomatic Enclave in Islamabad.
The event was observed with solemnity and devotion, bringing together members of the diplomatic community and Buddhist devotees in a spirit of peace and reflection. Several diplomatic missions based in Islamabad, including those of Vietnam and Myanmar, participated in the religious observances, symbolizing shared cultural and spiritual values.
Buddhist sermons were delivered by Ven. Polpitimukalane Pannasiri Thero, who is currently visiting Pakistan from Sri Lanka. His discourse highlighted the timeless teachings of compassion, tolerance, and harmony that are central to Vesak.
The International Buddhist Centre, situated within the Diplomatic Enclave, was generously donated by the late Raja Tridiv Roy, a distinguished Buddhist devotee from Bangladesh. The Centre is presently maintained under the custodianship of the High Commission of Sri Lanka in Pakistan and continues to serve as a focal point for religious and cultural activities of the Buddhist community.
The Vesak celebrations reflected the enduring bonds of friendship and shared heritage among Buddhist nations and reaffirmed the High Commission’s commitment to promoting cultural and spiritual engagement in Pakistan.
