High Commissioner of Sri Lanka to Pakistan, Fred Senevirathne, paid a courtesy call on Governor of Punjab, Sardar Saleem Haider Khan, on 27 September 2025 at the Governor’s Office in Lahore.
The Hon. Governor warmly welcomed High Commissioner Fred Senevirathne and congratulated him on his new assignment as Sri Lanka’s High Commissioner to Pakistan. He briefed the High Commissioner on the longstanding and cordial relationship between the two countries and Sri Lanka’s recent developments, including the new Government’s policies aimed at economic development, which serve as an example for the region. He further noted that the Governor’s Office would extend its fullest support to further strengthen relations between the two countries.
High Commissioner Fred Senevirathne expressed his gratitude to the Hon. Governor for the warm welcome and the opportunity to engage in a productive dialogue. During the discussion, he provided an overview of Sri Lanka’s current political and economic landscape, highlighting the new Government’s commitment to good governance and its vision to create a corruption-free and clean Sri Lanka.
He emphasized Sri Lanka’s remarkable journey of resilience following a severe economic crisis, noting the restoration of macroeconomic stability and a notable rise in foreign reserves beyond critical levels. He also highlighted the stability of the foreign exchange rate, higher export earnings recorded over the past six months, and a significant increase in tourist arrivals from around the world. Additionally, he underscored the steady inflow of foreign direct investment as a strong indicator of growing international confidence in Sri Lanka’s economic recovery.
